Stance Control

Stance Control was introduced to the Prosthetic & Orthotic profession in 2002. It is a collective phrase for a new family of orthotic knee joints that control motion during the stance phase of walking. The family can now be broken up into 2 distinct categories:

Load Response

Load Response knee joints allow a pre-determined amount of knee flexion during the loading phase of the stance period. The joints stay locked at all times but try and simulate normal knee flexion. The knee joints can be flexed to allow sitting. The 2 load response knee joints available are:

Stance Control

The 2nd category of stance control knee joints lock during the stance phase of walking but unlock to allow knee flexion in swing. The 5 stance control knee joints available are:
