What is an Orthotist?

An Orthotist (pronounced: Ortho-tist) is an allied health professional who practices in public hospitals or the private sector. Orthotists deal with the:

of medical and surgical conditions of the lower limbs, upper limbs, head and spine.

The conditions orthotists treat include those resulting from bone and joint disorders such as arthritis, soft-tissue and muscular pathologies, as well as neurological and circulatory disease.  Orthotists also prescribe, apply and provide education regarding the use and care of an appropriate orthosis that serves the individual's requirements.
