NeuroMuscular Orthotics specialises in the assessment, prescription and fitting of Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses (KAFO). The design of our KAFO's is dependant on the functional requirements of the client. A posterior thigh shell is always used to provide hip/pelvic support but can be trimmed as required. The tibial section of the KAFO can be a variety of configurations and ankle motion may or may not be provided.

If a client requires a locked KAFO, we exclusively use a knee joint which can be unlocked with the use of  a release mechanism at hip level. This feature maximises the safety of the client as they progress from standing to sitting. As clients get older, balance generally diminishes and we consequently don't want clients bending down to release knee joints.
