Becker Orthopaedic E-Knee
The E-Knee from Becker
Orthopaedic was introduced in 2003. Australian orthotists completed
certification in the same year and it is the only electronic stance control knee
joint on the orthotic market. The system is comprised of the following
components:
Electronic knee joint
Microprocessor
Battery
Footplate
When the client bears weight on their foot, irrespective of what position the knee is in at initial contact, the footplate sends a signal to the microprocessor which in turns locks the knee joint. When pressure is released from the footplate, the microprocessor unlocks the knee joint in preparation for swing. The entire system is powered by 2 lithium batteries which require daily charging.
